just watched eamons film again, Under pressure, great stuff, a lot of ideas buzzing about stuff to do to assist the struggle in ireland against shell. GOOD vid from the guardian about the situation and theworsening of things with “men in masks” giving beatings to pacifist farmer willie corduff as well as mad connections with attempts at coup de etats in bolivia…

Were setting up a barcelona node to participate in the call from la via campesina for 1000 cancuns, see info on that below. Brixton in london will also have a node – Cancun in Brixton | 1000 Solutions | Cop -16 . the idea is to have stuff on for the days leading up to and during the COP16 in cancun; space to come and learn whats going on, to talk about how to make things more sustainable and just here in our local world, barcelona, catalunya, spain, europe.. also hopefully there will be much talks, at varying scales, about what we can do both globally and locally to sort the shit, hopefully much non violent direct action to “be the change that you seek in the world” as NVDA guru gandhi put it. Great vid about how direct action got results in shutting down kingsnorht but then winning in the courts, a must see for anyone interested in “climate justice”.we had a very very good initial talk this evening to get things going here for the barcelona node during 1000 cancuns, with some of the founders of the 350 campaign, and related campaign groups. also have had much talks and proposals made to many latin american networks here in the city, around the hub of the squatted social centre on the rambla, barrilonia, who put on cracking parties every week, sometimes with the excellent chilean folk collective aukan collectivo

so, i write to some of you, in the hope that, together, we can build on the foundations we have, dream bigger, have hope we will win, then do the work to realize our dreams (todos somos buddhas….)

I agree that the “climate justice movement” can really grow a lot in catalunya, as it is still only a small section of the wider “radical activist” world that exists here. decreixament, ester vives, el clima no esta en venda, repsol mata, can masdeu, transition are amongst the main actors in the scene at present, there is more.

were playing with ideas to organise the event, around nov 24 there is a big earth art project, that leads into the actual days for 1000 cancuns, nov 29 – december 10. the main day of action will be saturday 4th december. a day for us to be global-local, tuning in and listening to each other, talking together, building up the movement(s) together and building our world. we did connect with groups in bolivia during the COCHABAMBA peoples forum last april, which was a good step for us in barcelona. Ideally a great big free party with manu chao playing, after a day of LOCAL PEOPLES ASSEMBLIES, and some actions would be ideal (critical audio about these actions of communication and ideas of hope – Failure and Victory in Copenhagen (includes audio interview) )

we write to you, in hope that you can participate in this momentous event, if there is nothing yet in your part of the world, you can set 1 up, if there is anything going on, tell us. Climate Justice Action (CJA): In 2009, indigenous peoples throughout the world called for a global mobilisation ‘In defence of mother earth’ on October 12, reclaiming the day that used to be imposed as ‘Columbus Day’. Responding to this call, and the demand for a day of action for ‘system change, not climate change’ issued by the global movements gathered in Copenhagen last year, Climate Justice Action is proposing a day of direct action for climate justice on October 12, 2010. El 12 Octubre, ratificando un acuerdo de los frentes regionales de la Macroregion Sur que se llevo a cabo en Tacna y seguidamente en Huancayo, alrededor de cinco mil manifestantes marcharon en la capital del pais para exigir principalmente que el gas peruano se quede para abastecer el consumo interno y contra el fraude electoral contra la candidatura de Susana Villaran/Confluencia de Izquierda en la denominada “Marcha de los Pueblos”

PLATAFORMA DE LUCHA:

1.-Por la defensa de la madre tierra.

2.-Asamblea Constituyente: Constitución Plurinacional e Intercultural.

3.-Derecho a la consulta soberana de los pueblos.

4.-No a la privatización de los recursos naturales y territorios indígenas.

5.-No a la exportación del gas, el gas para los peruanos.

6.-Derogatoria del Decreto Supremo Nº 003-2006.PCM.

7.-No a la destrucción del santuario Nacional de Megantoni.

8.-Por empleo decente, sueldos y salarios dignos.

9.-No a la criminalización de la protesta social y la persecución política.

10.-No a la privatización de tierras mediante la concesión hasta 40,000 has

11.-No a la expropiación de tierras de las comunidades campesinas de Olmos.

12.-Defensa de las tierras de los pueblos andinos contra la concesión y explotación minera.

Los movimientos sociales de todo el mundo se están movilizando para la 16ª Conferencia de las Partes (COP 16) de la Convención Marco de Naciones Unidas para el Cambio Climático (CMNUCC) que se celebrará en Cancún, del 29 de noviembre al 10 de diciembre de 2010.

La COP 15 en Copenhague demostró la incapacitad de la mayoría de los gobiernos para enfrentarse a las causas reales del caos climático, y particularmente la presión de los EEUU para aprobar de forma antidemocrática el llamado “Entendimiento de Copenhague”, con el fin de desconocer los débiles compromisos de Kioto de Naciones Unidas y dejar solo mecanismos voluntarios con base al mercado.

Las negociaciones climáticas se han convertido en un gran mercado.Los países industrializados, históricamente responsables de la mayoría de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero, están inventando todos los trucos posibles para evitar reducirlas. Por ejemplo, el “Mecanismo para un Desarrollo Limpio” (MDL) del protocolo de Kioto permite a los países seguir contaminando y consumiendo como de costumbre, a cambio de pagos mínimos para que supuestamente los países del Sur reduzcan sus emisiones. Lo que en realidad ocurre es que las empresas ganan doblemente: por contaminar y por vender falsas soluciones.

Monsanto pretende convencernos que su soja Roundup Ready puede calificar para los créditos de carbono porque contribuirían a reducir los gases que calientan el planeta mediante acumulación de materia orgánica en el suelo. Las comunidades que viven donde hay monocultivos de soja son una muestra viviente de los efectos mortales y destructivos de dichos monocultivos. Argumentos falsos similares se utilizan para vender créditos de carbono con base a monocultivos forestales, el cultivo de agrocombustibles, o la producción industrial de ganado.

Muchos gobiernos de los países del Sur, encandilados por las potenciales ganancias, están apostando a estas falsas soluciones y negándose a implementar medidas que efectivamente enfrenten el cambio climático, como dar apoyo a la agricultura campesina sostenible, orientar la producción hacia los mercados internos, establecer efectivas políticas de ahorro de energía por parte de la industria, etc.

Exigimos la aplicación de las miles de soluciones de los pueblos ante la crisis climática

Ya es hora de que la Convención Marco de Naciones Unidas para el Cambio Climático (CMNUCC) propicie políticas firmes para contribuir a solucionar el caos climático. Es preciso que los países se comprometan firme y vinculantemente para reducir de forma radical las emisiones de gases y cambiar por completo su modo de producción y consumo.

El cambio climático también está agudizando la crisis de la migración. Las sequías, las tormentas con terribles inundaciones, la contaminación del agua y el deterioro del suelo, así como otros impactos destructivos del desastre ambiental neoliberal, están provocando un desplazamiento de millares de personas, principalmente mujeres y campesinos arruinados, de sus comunidades rurales hacia las ciudades y hacia el Norte buscando desesperadamente su sobrevivencia y la de sus familias. Se calcula que 50 millones de personas han sido forzadas a emigrar debido a los efectos climáticos. Estos “desplazados climáticos” han venido a engrosar las filas de los más de 200 millones de seres humanos, según la Organización Internacional de las Migraciones (OIM), que hoy representan la peor crisis de migración que ha enfrentado la humanidad.

Las soluciones existen. Más de 35,000 personas se reunieron en abril en Cochabamba, Bolivia en la Conferencia Mundial de los Pueblos sobre el Cambio Climático y los Derechos de la Madre Tierra ampliando nuevas visiones y propuestas para salvar al planeta. Son estas miles de soluciones que surgen desde los pueblos las que enfrenta efectivamente la crisis climática.

Exigimos a la CMNUCC que adopte las demandas del Acuerdo de los Pueblos de Cochabamba y que rechace todas las soluciones falsas que se estén tramando. Entre ellas:

Defender los derechos de la tierra y el bosque: Rechazamos la iniciativa REDD + (reducción de las emisiones por deforestación y degradación). La protección de los bosques y la reforestación de los bosques degradados es una obligación de todos los gobiernos que debe implementarse sin limitar la autonomía, los derechos o el control de los pueblos indígenas y campesinos sobre la tierra y los territorios, y sin que sirva de excusa para que otros países y corporaciones sigan contaminando y sembrando monocultivo de árboles. Los derechos territoriales y culturales de los pueblos indígenas y de los campesinos deben reconocerse explícitamente en cualquier acuerdo climático.

Rechazar la geoingeniería: Las propuestas a gran escala para alterar deliberadamente el clima, como el biochar y las plantas modificadas genéticamente para lograr un supuesto incremento de la reflectividad y la resistencia a las sequías, el calor y la sal, la fertilización del mar o la creación masiva de nubes sólo crea nuevos problemas inmanejables, no son soluciones. La geoingeniería es sólo un ejemplo más de cómo las empresas transnacionales están dispuestas a jugar con el futuro del planeta y la humanidad con el fin de crear nuevas fuentes de ganancias.

Rechazar todos los esquemas de comercio de carbono y los Mecanismos de Desarrollo Limpio (MDL): El comercio de carbono ha probado ser extremadamente lucrativo en términos de generación de ganancias para los inversionistas, sin embargo ha fallado rotundamente en la reducción de gases de efecto invernadero. En el “mercado de carbono” recientemente inventado, el precio del carbono continúa cayendo en picada, lo cual fomenta aún más la contaminación. Las emisiones de carbono deben reducirse en la fuente en vez de permitir que se pague por tener el derecho a contaminar.

Rechazar cualquier participación del Banco Mundial en la gestión de los fondos y políticas relacionadas al cambio climático.

Necesitamos millones y millones de comunidades campesinas y territorios indígenas para alimentar la humanidad y enfriar el planeta.

La investigación científica muestra que los pueblos campesinos e indígenas podríamos reducir las emisiones globales actuales al 75% al incrementar la biodiversidad, recuperar la materia orgánica del suelo, sustituir la producción industrial de carne por una producción diversificada a pequeña escala, expandir los mercados locales, parar la deforestación y hacer un manejo integral del bosque.

La agricultura campesina no sólo contribuye positivamente al equilibro del carbono del planeta, sino que crea también 2,800 millones de puestos de trabajo, para hombres y mujeres en todo el mundo, y es el mejor modo de luchar contra el hambre, la desnutrición y la crisis alimentaria actual.

El pleno derecho a la tierra y la recuperación de los territorios, la soberanía alimentaria, el acceso al agua como bien social y derecho humano, el derecho a usar, conservar e intercambiar libremente las semillas, la desconcentración y fomento a los mercados locales, son condiciones indispensables para que los pueblos campesinos e indígenas sigamos alimentando el mundo y enfriando el planeta.

Social movements from around the world are mobilizing for the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP 16) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that will take place in Cancun from 29 November to 10 December 2010.

The COP 15 in Copenhagen demonstrated governments’ incapacity to tackle the root causes of the current climate chaos. At the very last moment, the US undemocratically pushed through the so called “Copenhagen accord”, in an attempt to move the debate out of the UN and the Kyoto promises and to favor even more voluntarily free market solutions.

The climate negotiations have turned into a huge market place. Developed countries, historically responsible for most of the greenhouse gas emissions are inventing all possible tricks to avoid reducing their own emissions. For example, the “Clean Development Mechanism” (CDM) under the Kyoto protocol allows countries to continue polluting and consuming as usual, while paying low prices supposedly so that developing countries reduce their emissions. What actually occurs is that companies profit doubly: to contaminate and to sell false solutions.

Monsanto tries to convince us that monoculture plantations of its GMO Roundup Ready soybeans qualify for carbon credits because they contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases that heat the planet by accumulating organic matter in the soil. Communities living nearby soy monoculture plantations are a living example of the mortal and destructive effects of these monocultures. Similar false arguments are used to sell carbon credits based on forest monocultures, agrofuel crops, or industrial animal production.

Many governments of developing countries, attracted by the potential profits, are betting on these false solutions and refusing to implement measures that effectively confront climate change, such as supporting sustainable peasant agriculture, orienting production towards internal markets, establishing effective energy saving policies for industry, etc.

We demand the application of thousands of people’s solutions to climate change

It is now time for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to embark on resolute policies to contribute to solve the climate chaos. Countries need to take strong and binding commitments to radically cut gas emissions and radically change their mode of production and consumption.

Climate change also is worsening the migration crisis. The droughts, the terrible floods caused by severe storms, water contamination, soil erosion and degradation, as well as other destructive impacts of the neoliberal environmental disaster, are bringing about the displacement of thousands of people, mainly women and ruined farmers, from their rural communities and forcing them towards the cities and the North in a desperate search for the means of survival for them and their families. It is estimated that 50 million people have been forced to migrate due to the effects of climate change. These “climate displaced people” have come to swell the ranks of the more than 200 million human beings, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), that today represent the worse crisis of migration that humanity has faced.

Solutions do exist. More than 35,000 people gathered in Cochabamba, Bolivia at the People Conference on Climate Change and for the Rights of Mother Earth broadening new visions and proposals to save the planet. These thousands of solutions coming from the people effectively confront the climate crisis.

We demand that the UNFCCC endorse the Cochabamba People’s Agreement proposals and to reject all false solutions being cooked up for the moment. Among them:

Defend land and forest rights: The REDD + initiative (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) should be rejected. Protecting forests and reforesting degraded forests is an obligation of all governments that should be implemented without limiting the autonomy, the rights or the control of indigenous and peasant peoples over the land and their territories, and without serving as an excuse so that other countries and corporations continue contaminating and planting tree monocultures. Territorial and cultural rights of indigenous and peasant peoples should be explicitly recognized in any climate accord.

Reject geoengineering: Large-scale proposals to deliberately alter the climate, such as biochar; genetically modified plants to supposedly increase reflectivity and resistance to drought, heat and salt; the fertilization of the ocean or the massive creation of clouds, only create new unmanageable problems, they are not solutions. Geoengineering is only one example of how transnational companies are willing to play with the future of the planet and humanity in order to create new sources profit.

Reject all carbon trading schemes and Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM): Carbon trading has proven extremely lucrative in terms of generating investor dividends, but has completely failed in reducing greenhouse gas. In the new invented “carbon market” the price of carbon keeps dropping to rock bottom, which encourages further pollution. All carbon emissions should be reduced from the source, rather than allowing payment for the right to pollute.

Reject any participation of the World Bank in the management of funds and policies related to climate change.

We need millions and millions of peasant communities and indigenous territories to feed humanity and cool the planet.

Scientific research shows that peasant and indigenous peoples could reduce current global emissions to 75% by increasing biodiversity, recuperating soil organic matter, replacing industrial meat production with small-scale diversified food production, expanding local markets, halting deforestation and practicing integrated forest management.

Peasant agriculture not only contribute positively to the carbon balance of the planet, it also gives employment to 2.8 billion people, women and men around the world, and it remains the best way to combat hunger, malnutrition and the current food crisis.

The right to land and the reclaiming for territories, food sovereignty, access to water as a common good and a human right, the right to use, conserve and exchange seeds, the de-concentration and promotion of local markets, are the indispensable conditions so that peasant and indigenous peoples continue feeding the world and cooling the planet.

Together with diverse organizations we will set up in Cancun, during the dates of the COP 15, the Alternative Global Forum “For life, and environmental and social justice”, which will unite the force and resistance of peasant peoples of the world, who are already cooling the planet (the Agenda towards Cancun 2010 is attached).

We call on social movements, popular organizations and all people of the world to organize on December 7, 2010, thousands of protests and actions to reject the false and market-based solutions. We declare ourselves in permanent mobilization until we defeat the big market negotiations in Cancun in December.

Global Mobilization for Mother Earth

From the 12th till the 16th of 2009. In every corner of the planet, those of us who want to save the life are raising our voices against capitalist aggression expressed in the looting and the commodification of life. Because we know that other worlds are not only urgent: they are, above all, possible. And we are building them.

The Earth is a live being and is seriously ill. We, her inhabitants, are those who are affecting her with the virus of developmentalism. We inhabit an ocean called the atmosphere, as fish live in water. Without it, there would be no life, because it contains oxygen and water, together with the forests and rains that give sustenance to live beings. But we are affecting her terribly.

The Pachamama generates climate phenomena to heal herself from global warming and she seeks a new balance that many life forms cannot tolerate. If we don’t change course, the global temperature will increase by 2ºC in a few years and the cataclysms will be uncontrollable. It will be the greatest social-environmental climatic catastrophe of human history.

Technological advances, thousands of industries, millions of vehicles, generate huge amounts of gases that contaminate and endanger the stability of life. Greed for profit and accumulation, the individualism of capitalism, have brought about a deep financial, economic, productive, social, cultural, racial and religious crisis. The speculative financial bubble, structural unemployment, social exclusion, global warming, cultural shock, racist violence and religious fanaticism, all simultaneously.

So many and such deep simultaneous crises form an authentic crisis of civilization itself: a crisis of the myth and the snare of “capitalist development and modernity”; of Eurocentrism, with its one-nation state, cultural homogeneity, Western positive law, developmentalism and commercialization.

Does this mean that we have lost the capacity to coexist with the planet? Has the time to change come? The Mother Earth will transform and save herself: our challenge is to save ourselves. This means taking urgent measures.

We, the indigenous peoples, for thousands of years have built civilizations based on balance and harmony between human beings and Mother Nature. For that reason, we knew how to conserve biodiversity and to produce foods essential for humanity, in societies without exploitation. Today we offer our values, our practices and our knowledge to save the planet; wthout capitalist imposition, destruction nor contamination.

Responding to this historic challenge and fulfilling the mandate of the 4th Continental Summit of Indigenous Peoples and Nationalities of Abya Yala, we CALL FOR the Global Minga*/Mobilization in Defense of Mother Earth and the Peoples, against the commodification of life (foodstuffs, water, biodiversity, natural goods); contamination and depredation (by mining, hydrocarbons, hydroelectric projects, logging, cattle ranches, agrofuels, GMOs); consumerism and criminalization of social struggle; and for setting up the Tribunal of Climate Justice.

From October 12 to 16, in every corner of the planet, all those who want to save life will raise our voices against capitalist aggression, expressed in the pillage and commodification of life. Because we know that other worlds are not only urgent: they are, above all, possible. And we are already building them.

Aims

• To fight for the continuation of life, for being at peace with the Earth, for the Greater Law, for natural goods and spirituality linked to the Pachamama, collective rights, natural laws, water for the future generations.

• To raise awareness in society on the necessity of coexisting with Nature, in balance with her.

• To raise an alert about the imminent danger of an environmental catastrophe that threatens the planet and to point to those responsible: global capitalism, transnational companies and complicit States.

• To demonstrate that it is possible to respond to this change from the proposals and practices of our peoples, in harmony and reciprocity with Mother Nature: with Good Living, plurinational States and an integration model based on fairness, reciprocity and complementariness.

• To denounce neoliberal capitalism, that criminalizes social protest in order to impose the pillage and depredation of Mother Nature.

• To demand amnesty for all indigenous and social leaders and environmental activists who are on trial for defending the rights of the peoples and of Mother Nature.

• To implant the Tribunal of Climate Justice (Cochabamba, Bolivia, October 13 and 14), to judge transnational companies and complicit States, as the first step towards an International Tribunal on Environmental Crimes.

• To open up the debate on the crisis of capitalist civilization, with the proposal of the indigenous peoples, so as to halt climate catastrophe.

Activities

• Manifestos by a wide range of organizations of indigenous and social movements, with alternatives to halt global climate and environmental catastrophe.

• A memorial with concrete proposals to present to the Convention on Climate Change, Convention on Biological Diversity, the UN, Inter-American Commission on Human rights and similar organizations of other continents.

• Mobilizations around the world (in urban and rural communities), for specific demands, at the local and national level, and the common goal of the Global “Minga”.

• Sit-ins in front of UN offices and those of transnational companies in the extractive sector (hydrocarbons, mining, logging, water), and those of agrofuels and GMOs.

• Discussion forums and cultural or political rallies around defense of Mother Earth and the peoples, against the commodification of life, contamination and social criminalization.

• Holding Tribunals of Climate Justice to judge environmental crimes.

• Assemblies to coordinate strategies towards the Alternative Summit to the Kyoto Protocol Conference (Copenhagen, December 2009).

Climate Justice Tribunal

85% of the gas emissions responsible for the green-house effect that causes global warming are generated in the richest countries. Only 3% in Latin America. But the harmful effects such as flooding and droughts hit the poorest countries hardest. Thus, developed countries have brought about a series of imbalances in poorer countries, which is the origin of the ecological debt owed to our peoples.

The model of irrational exploitation of natural goods is to blame, since it is imposed worldwide, devastating human rights, the collective rights of peoples and those of Mother Nature, creating imbalance.

For this reason, in accordance with the mandate of the 4th Continental Summit of Indigenous Peoples and Nationalities of Abya Yala, in alliance with a broad network of social movements and organizations from all around the planet, we are building the Tribunal of Climate Justice, to morally judge those who cause the environmental crisis. It will be installed on October 13 and 14 in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

The Tribunal of Climate Justice will make it possible to morally identify and impugn the transnational companies and complicit States that pillage natural goods and undermine the rights of the peoples and of Mother Nature. And it is a first step towards the creation of an International Tribunal of Environmental Justice, along the lines of the Court of The Hague.

Moreover, the Tribunal will give visibility to the cause-effect relation between the extractive corporate model of development imposed by transnational companies and climate change. The Tribunal will pass ethical judgment on those responsible for the ecological debt, caused by the consumerism that turns biodiversity into commodities.

Esta es la Convocatoria de 2009:

Minga Global por la Madre Tierra.

12 al 16 de octubre del 2010. En cada rincón del planeta, quienes queremos salvar la vida levantaremos nuestras voces contra la agresión capitalista expresada en el saqueo y la mercantilización de la vida. Porque sabemos que otros mundos no son solo urgentes: son, sobre todo, posibles. Y ya los estamos construyendo.

La Tierra es un ser vivo y está gravemente enferma. Somos quienes vivimos en ella quienes la estamos afectando con el virus del desarrollismo. Vivimos en un océano llamado atmósfera, así como los peces en el agua. Sin ella no habría vida, porque contiene el oxígeno y el agua, y con ellos los bosques y las lluvias que dan sustento a los seres vivos. Pero la estamos afectando terriblemente.

La Pachamama para sanarse del calentamiento global genera fenómenos climáticos y busca un nuevo equilibrio, que muchas vidas no toleran. Si no cambiamos de rumbo, el aumento de la temperatura global llegará en pocos años a los 2ºC y los cataclismos serán incontrolables. Será la mayor hecatombe socioambiental climática de la historia humana.

Porque los avances tecnológicos, miles de industrias, millones de vehículos, generan grandes cantidades de gases que contaminan y ponen en peligro la estabilidad de la vida. El afán de lucro, de acumulación, el individualismo del capitalismo, han provocado una profunda crisis financiera, económica, productiva, social, cultural, racial y religiosa. Burbuja especulativa financiera, desempleo estructural, exclusión social, calentamiento global, choque cultural, violencia racista y fanatismo religioso, todo a la vez.

Tantas y tan profundas crisis simultáneas configuran una auténtica crisis civilizatoria, una crisis del mito y de la trampa del “desarrollo y modernidad capitalista”; del eurocentrismo, con su Estado uninacional, homogeneidad cultural, derecho positivo occidental, desarrollismo y mercantilización.

¿Significa esto que perdemos la capacidad de convivir con el planeta? ¿Llegó la hora del cambio? La Madre Tierra se transformará y se salvará: el reto es salvarnos nosotros. Ello nos obliga a tomar medidas urgentes.

Nosotros, los pueblos indígenas, durante miles de años construimos civilizaciones basadas en el equilibrio y la armonía entre los hombres y la Madre Naturaleza. Por ello supimos conservar la biodiversidad y criar alimentos esenciales para la humanidad, en sociedades sin explotación. Hoy ofrecemos nuestros valores, nuestras prácticas y nuestros saberes, para salvar al planeta. Sin imposición capitalista, destrucción ni contaminación

Respondiendo a este reto histórico y cumpliendo el mandato de la IV Cumbre Continental de Pueblos y Nacionalidades Indígenas del Abya Yala, CONVOCAMOS a la Minga / Movilización Global en Defensa de la Madre Tierra y los Pueblos, contra la mercantilización de la vida (alimentos, agua, biodiversidad, bienes naturales); contaminación y depredación (por la minería, hidrocarburos, hidroeléctricas, forestales, ganadería, agrocombustibles, transgénicos); consumismo y criminalización de las luchas sociales; y por la construcción del Tribunal de Justicia Climática.

Del 12 al 16 de octubre, en cada rincón del planeta, quienes queremos salvar la vida levantaremos nuestras voces contra la agresión capitalista expresada en el saqueo y la mercantilización de la vida. Objetivos

• Luchar por la vigencia de la vida, la paz con la Tierra, el Derecho Mayor, los bienes naturales y la espiritualidad ligada a la Pachamama, los derechos colectivos, las leyes naturales, el agua para las generaciones futuras.

• Sensibilizar a la sociedad sobre la necesidad de convivir con la naturaleza, en equilibrio con ella.

• Alertar sobre el inminente peligro de la hecatombe ambiental que amenaza el planeta y señalar a sus responsables: el capitalismo global, las empresas multinacionales y los Estados cómplices.

• Demostrar que es posible enfrentar ese cambio desde las propuestas y las prácticas de los pueblos, en armonía y reciprocidad con la Madre Naturaleza: con Buen Vivir, Estados Plurinacionales y un modelo de integración desde la equidad, la reciprocidad y la complementariedad.

• Denunciar el capitalismo neoliberal que criminaliza la protesta social para imponer el saqueo y depredación de la Madre Naturaleza.

• Exigir amnistías para todos los dirigentes indígenas, sociales y activistas ambientales procesados por defender los derechos de los Pueblos y de la Madre Naturaleza.

• Convocar a la instalación del Tribunal de Justicia Climática (Cochabamba, Bolivia, 13 y 14 de octubre), que juzgue a las empresas transnacionales y los Estados cómplices, como el primer paso hacia una Corte Internacional sobre Delitos Ambientales.

• Abrir el debate sobre la crisis de la civilización capitalista, con la propuesta de los pueblos indígenas, para detener la catástrofe climática.

Actividades

• Manifiestos de la mayor diversidad de organizaciones de movimientos indígenas y sociales, con alternativas para detener la catástrofe climática y ambiental global.

• Memorial con propuestas concretas ante la Convención de Cambio Climático, Convención de Diversidad Biológica, ONU, Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos y entidades similares de otros continentes.

• Movilizaciones en todo el mundo (comunidades urbanas y rurales), por demandas específicas locales, nacionales y el objetivo común de la Minga Global.

• Plantones frente a locales de la ONU y de transnacionales extractivas (hidrocarburos, mineras, madera, agua), de agrocombustibles y transgénicos.

• Foros de discusión y jornadas culturales y políticas sobre defensa de la Madre Tierra y los pueblos contra la mercantilización de la vida, contaminación y criminalización social.

• Realización de Tribunales de Justicia Climática para juzgar por delitos ambientales.

• Asambleas de articulación de estrategias hacia la Cumbre Alternativa a la Conferencia del Protocolo de Kyoto (Copenhague, diciembre 2009).

Tribunal de Justicia Climática

El 85% de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero que causan el calentamiento global se genera en los países más ricos. Solo un 3% en América Latina. Pero los efectos nocivos como las inundaciones y sequías son cargados a las cuentas de los países más pobres. De esta manera, los países desarrollados han provocado una serie de desequilibrios en los países pobres y ahí está el origen de la deuda ecológica con nuestros pueblos.

El responsable es el modelo de explotación irracional de los bienes naturales, que se impone de manera global, arrasando con los derechos humanos, los derechos colectivos de los pueblos y los derechos de la Madre Naturaleza, rompiendo el equilibrio.

Por ello, en cumplimiento del mandato de la IV Cumbre Continental de Pueblos y Nacionalidades Indígenas del Abya Yala, en alianza con una amplia red de movimientos y organizaciones sociales de todo el planeta, estamos construyendo el Tribunal de Justicia Climática, para juzgar moralmente a los causantes de la crisis ambiental, que será instalado los días 13 y 14 de octubre en Cochabamba, Bolivia.

El Tribunal de Justicia Climática permitirá identificar y sancionar moralmente a las compañías transnacionales y los Estados cómplices que saquean los bienes naturales y vulneran los derechos de los pueblos y la Madre Naturaleza. Y es un primer paso hacia la formación de un Tribunal Internacional de Justicia Ambiental, al estilo del Tribunal de La Haya.

Hay algunos de nosotros trabajando en Barcelona para preparar un espacio para la conexión de hoy con la conferencia de Cochabamba. Tendremos comentarios de Copenhague y una asamblea local de los pueblos clase hoy. Estaremos en la Universidad Libre de larimaia (en catalán de la grieta en el hielo .. su direcion – C/Gran Via 550, circa metro rojo – URGELL) hoy desde las 7pm hasta 1 a.m. (hora local de BCN). Luego a la 1 am nos dirigiremos a un segundo espacio, La otra carboneria, 5 minutos a pie, es un centro social en el barrio de Sant Antoni que están involucrados en el huerto comunitario en el Raval, entre mucho otros temas de la comunidad local. En ese momento vamos a empezar a participar en el proyecto de tipo Web en línea de conferencias, la hemispheric convergence con otros nodos locales similares alrededor del mundo.

Mañana esperamos más cosas, más películas y charlas y, posiblemente, un recorrido a pie locales de las zonas de Barcelona. Manaña tambien hay proyecion de la peli AGE OF STUPID con eco union cineforum, ( ala del equipament, C/ San Pere Més Baix 70-74 ) El domingo vamos a ir a Can Masdeu (artículo relacionado sobre este proyecto – rurbano revolution) para comer juntos, relajarse en la naturaleza y reflexionar sobre cómo este experimento fue y cómo podemos construir en las cosas

El proceso de la COP 15 fue un desastre, todos están de acuerdo. Entonces, ahora es por nosotros, los movimientos sociales globales para organizar y producir el cambio, ahora!. El siguiente paso muy importante comienza en 4 días en Cochabamba, Bolivia: Conferencia Mundial de los Pueblos sobre el Cambio Climático y los Derechos de la Madre Tierra (Lunes 19 de abril -22 jueves). Hay un llamado por una Hemispheric convergence (desde america hasta el mundo) a cabo para la creación de espacios físicos locales en estas fechas en un intento de horizontalizar aún más el proceso, permiten que más gente participe, para actuar como puntos de reunión local para:

1 – escuchar y ver cosas de Cochabamba
2 – crear asambleas locales para discutir a nivel mundial y locales, los problemas, estrategias, etc ..
3 – participar a través de las asambleas locales con grupos en Cochabamba a través de Mayfirst collectivo que será “la organización de reuniones virtuales interactivos”

La idea de que más personas, grupos y redes que participan juntos en un punto singular en el tiempo en su área local, es tal vez un mecanismo vital / espacio / sistema que nosotros, los movimientos sociales, no han utilizado todo su potencial. Si lo empuje, que realmente puede sentir que WE ARE WINNING, estamos ganando.

En diciembre pasado las cosas en el frío de Copenhague pasó mucho. Dado que, la mayoría de las personas sólo piensan en el desastre de la COP 15 oficiales, pero para más de nosotros que estuvimos allí en la calle, cosas mágicas paso que nos han llenado de esperanza y en la que estamos construyendo. 100.000 marcharon en Copenhague, el sábado exigentes CAMBIO DEL SISTEMA NO CAMBIO CLIMÁTICO. Esta Asamblea de Pueblos en Cochabamba no es más que el segundo paso!

Durante esos días fríos de la actividad en las calles de Copenhague, Reclaim Power fue el principal CJA (acción climática justicia) manifestacion. Hemos logrado nuestro objetivo, en parte (debido a la violencia policial no permite a las personas en el interior del centro hacia fuera-gaurdian vid aquí), que era crear un espacio abierto, horizontal para una ASAMBLEA LOS PUEBLOS. Nos las arreglamos para hacer una secuencia de radio en vivo de la asamblea que gracias a indymedia y la isla de disidentes (audio – THE PEOPLES ASSEMBLY | POST HORIZONTAL PROCESS FEEDBACK SESSION + Joyfull insights | RECLAIM POWER SOUNDSCAPE ), pero escuchaba sólo unas pocas personas. Si podemos mejorar esta área de la comunicación, tal vez realmente puede radicalizar nuestra lucha, vamos a tratar la próxima semana. Hemos tenido discusiones iniciales sobre la configuración de estos “listening nodes”, “nodos para escuchar”, para conectar con la red MAYFIRST en Dublín, Irlanda (a través de seomra spraoi) y en Barcelona, Catalunya, España ((transition, el clima no esta en venda, decreixament grupos)
Un experimento similar anterior fue tratado durante el Foro Social Mundial 2007 en Kenia: Indymedia radio support for WSF 2007 from Kenya + Indymedia.org

The Cochabamba Global Convergance call out: Local assembly and listening points

Greetings to all those working for global climate justice

The COP15 process was a disaster, all are agreed. It is up to us, global social movements to organize and bring about change, now!. The next very important step starts in 4 days time in Cochabamba, Bolivia: World People’s Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth (april 19 monday -22 thursday). There is a call out for a Hemispheric convergence (from american to global) the creation of local physical spaces during these dates in an attempt to further horizontalize the process, allow for more people to participate, to act as local gathering points to:

1 – listen to/ watch output from Cochabamba
2 – create local assemblies to discuss global/ local issues, strategies etc…
3 – participate via local assemblies with groups in cochabamba via Mayfirst collective who will be “organising virtual interactive meetings”

The idea of more people / groups / networks participating together in a singular point in time in their local area, is perhaps a vital mechanism / space / system that we, social movements, have not utilized to its full potential. If we push it, we might really feel that WE ARE WINNING.

Last December in cold Copenhagen much things happened. Since, most people only think about the disaster of the official COP15, but for more of us who were there on the streets, magical things happened that have filled us with hope and on which we are building. 100,000 marched in Copenhagen on the Saturday demanding SYSTEM CHANGE NOT CLIMATE CHANGE. This PEOPLES ASSEMBLY in Cochabamba is but the second step!

During those cold days of activity on the streets of Copenhagen, RECLAIM POWER was the main CJA (climate justice action) demo. We succeeded in our aim, partly (due to police violence not allowing people inside the centre out- gaurdian vid here), which was to create an open, horizontal space for a PEOPLES ASSEMBLY. We managed to make a live radio stream of that assembly thanks to indymedia and dissident island ( THE PEOPLES ASSEMBLY | POST HORIZONTAL PROCESS FEEDBACK SESSION + Joyfull insights | RECLAIM POWER SOUNDSCAPE ), but only a few people listened. If we can improve this area of COMMUNICATION, perhaps we can really radicalise our battle, lets try next week. Climate Camp UK is sending a few people to Bolivia. They will be using Twitter to link to news, reports, info, multimedia uploads and blogs before, during and after the conference: http://twitter.com/WPCCC. We have had initial discussions about setting up these “listening nodes” to plug into the MAYFIRST network in Dublin, Ireland (via seomra spraoi) and in Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain (transition, el clima no esta en venda, decreixament groups). We will add more as we hear of them. A previous similar experiment was tried during the 2007 world social forum in Kenya: Indymedia radio support for WSF 2007 from Kenya + Indymedia.org
